Wiregrass Restaurant and Bar received a facelift this spring with the help of the Brooks County Development Authority.

Buddy Holwell, BCDA Chairman, said, “Our downtown is one of our most valued resources, and through our Downtown Façade Improvement Program, we are helping to make much needed improvements.”

The BCDA began its façade improvement program last year in an effort to beautify downtown Quitman. The program allows for building and business owners to receive assistance for projects such as painting, lighting, signage, etc.

Tiffany Holmes, BCDA Director, said, “Our board hopes to encourage people to invest in our downtown through creative and interesting projects. We’ve made the process incredibly simple to apply.”

Wiregrass owner, James Horton, applied to the program to have a cloth awning replaced with a permanent structure. Horton is proud to say that all labor and materials for the project were sourced within the community.

Holmes says that interested parties can apply by completing a one page application to have projects preapproved by the designated design committee. Only properties located in the historic downtown may apply.
