Boys and Girls Club to begin next phase of construction, hires new area director

The Brooks County Boys and Girls Club is moving forward, with construction to begin soon on the next phase of the complex. The current building, located on Webster Road near the recreation fields, is complete and is being utilized for activities and administration. Future building plans will include an additional activities center, gymnasium, and a swimming pool.

ECHOES 21ST Century Community Learning Centers students in grades 3-12 have been enjoying after-school enrichment activities at the club, including art, board games, and table games. More activities will be planned for Summer ECHOES in June. The Recreation Department, headed by David DeSantiago, will begin baseball season this week. Approximately 165 young people are set to play. Opening ceremonies were held Monday, March 26, with games to follow.

In addition, Janie Jones has been hired as Brooks County area director. “I am so excited about the future of Brooks County Boys and Girls Club,” she says. “Over the next few months, we will see lots of progress here. The youth of our community will benefit greatly from this!”
